Gujarat Borosil Solar glass manufacturer today inaugurated the world’s first two mm tempered glass production facility at Bharuch in Gujarat.It was was inaugurated by principal scientific advisor to Government of India and Padma Vibhushan awardee Dr R Chidambaram.
"We have successfully completed production trials of fully tempered 2mm solar glass. This heralds a big leap in the mission to increase the efficiency of solar modules. This would lead to the decrease in the cost of power and significantly improve the viability of solar power for consumers," Borosil Vice-Chairman Pradeep Kheruka said in a statement issued here.
He further said the 2 mm tempered glass also absorbs less solar energy while allowing higher irradiance to reach the solar cell.
"This will help in collect the solar energy more efficiently than ever done before. The use of high transmission solar glass on both surfaces will allow the use of bifacial solar cells which will enhance module efficiency by 30 percent," Kheruka added.
