According to the government, India aims to export $43 billion worth of agricultural products.

According to Anupriya Patel, Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry, the country has set a $400 billion target for merchandise exports for 2021-22, with $262 billion already attained in the April-November 2021-22 period, according to an official release.

"A record export target of $43 billion has been set for agricultural products in 2021-22, and this objective would be achieved in the current fiscal due to efforts by APEDA and farmers," Patel said at the Agri-Export Conference cum Buyer-Seller Meet' in Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh.

The Minister said at an event organised by the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) that increasing agricultural and processed food product exports from Purvanchal (eastern UP) would not only boost India's foreign exchange earnings, but will also help double farmers' income and increase employment opportunities in the region.

APEDA Chairman, Dr M Angamuthu, spoke about the steps done to enhance exports from the Purvanchal region to an audience of over 700 farmers and exporters. The event was held to honour the 75th anniversary of India's independence, which was commemorated under the theme 'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.'

A Memorandum of Understanding was signed during the meeting between key exporters' associations and Purvanchal region Farmer Producers' Organizations (FPOs) to increase agricultural product exports.

According to the announcement, Patel and Angamuthu halted exports of non-basmati rice to China and green chilies to the United Arab Emirates.
