Unveiling the Ashok Leyland ECOMET Light Duty Truck, Simba Corporation

In the lucrative light duty truck market, Simba Corporation, a well-known car dealer, has introduced the new Ashok Leyland ECOMET Truck model. Positioning the 7-ton truck in the competitive 7 to 10 tonne trucks category, which in 2023 recorded total sales of 1,378 units, now strengthens the company's efforts in gaining market share. The unveiling coincided with the opening of a new dealership in Thika Town, Swanley Motors.

The twin launches are a big push for Simba Corporation as it aims to expand in the Mount Kenya, Eastern, and Rift Valley regions, says Naresh Leekha, Group Managing Director, Motors Division.

The introduction of the Ashok Leyland Ecomet model into Kenya fills a void in our product offering and strategically places Simba Corporation as a provider of complete transportation solutions to cater to the various needs of Kenyan consumers. The ECOMET is an adaptable solution that can be readily converted into a 29- or 33-seater bus, giving us an opportunity to tap into the larger public and mass transport segments of the market, all for a competitive price of Ksh4.5 million, according to Mr. Leekha.

By providing this flexibility, Simba Corporation, through Deluxe Trucks and Buses, its subsidiary, now hopes to gain a larger market share while offering clients solutions that go beyond the typical trucking requirements, like mattresses, water tanks, hardware, and other logistics sectors.

The Chief Commercial Officer, Mohamed Varvany, stated that Simba Corporation will provide financing options for the ECOMET Truck in addition to other incentives, such as a five-year warranty or 500,000 kilometers of warranty coverage, whichever comes first.

The majority of businesses set aside money at the start of the year to budget and plan for purchases. We believe that now is a good time to introduce ourselves and begin establishing rapport with potential new truck customers by announcing our dealership agreement with Swanley Motors. Customers want a truck that is reasonably priced in the current economic climate, Mr. Varvany said, and that they can easily present to their financing partners for support without having to worry about not being able to pay back the loan.

Targeting important industry sectors like corporate and public transportation, agricultural and processing, construction, and education transportation, Mr. Varvany continued, adding that the new dealership in Thika, which will provide sales, spare parts, and auto repair services, will also establish other Simba Corporation brands in the area, such as the Mahindra Scorpio Pick-ups, which are backed by a five-year warranty or a one-year, fifty thousand-kilometer after-sale assurance.
