GUVNL Allots INR 4.49 Lakh per MWh - 250 MW of Stand-Alone Battery Storage per Month

With a pricing of INR 4.49 lakh (about $5,429)/MW/month, Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Ltd (GUVNL) has closed its 250 MW/500 MWh standalone battery energy storage tender. This is 58% less than the INR 10.8 lakh/MW/month cost found in SECI's 500 MW/1000 MWh auction in 2022.

Gensol, giving the lowest price of INR 448,996/MW/month, won 70 MW. At INR 449,996/MW/month, IndiGrid was able to acquire the remaining 180 MW.

The winners will install 500 MWh (250 MW x 2 hrs) of battery energy storage systems in Gujarat. The main goal of this installation is to provide GUVNL with the ability to charge and discharge the BESS "on demand." Develop the projects using a build-own-operate (BOO) approach.

With the winning bidders, GUVNL will sign a battery energy storage purchase agreement.

In accordance with the dispatch instructions provided by SLDC after consulting with GUVNL, the BESS will be charged by taking power from GETCO and injecting electricity into the GETCO network. Taking into account the minimal system efficiency stipulated in the agreement, GUVNL will supply the necessary electricity to charge the BESS.

The BESS will be made available by the developers for two operational cycles, or two full charge-discharge cycles, each day.
