Global energy firm ENGIE announced on Friday that it has obtained a 100 MW solar project located in Barmer, Rajasthan, from the Solar Energy Corporation of India.
Situated in one of the areas in India with the highest solar radiation, the Barmer project is anticipated to enter operation in 2027 and represents a key enhancement to ENGIE's expanding portfolio in Rajasthan, which is nearing 1 GW, according to a company announcement.
ENGIE, a worldwide frontrunner in low-carbon energy and services, has proudly declared the signing of a power purchase agreement (PPA) with the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) for a 100 MW Solar Photovoltaic (PV) project located in Barmer, Rajasthan.
Amit Jain, the CEO and Country Manager for India at MD Renewables & Batteries for India and South-East Asia, mentioned in the statement, "Our collaboration with SECI signifies a crucial step in ENGIE's expanding partnership in India and demonstrates our mutual goal of hastening the nation's shift to clean energy. The Barmer project aims to provide reliable solar energy to an area where increasing energy needs and economic development are closely linked."
ENGIE has repeatedly shown exceptional execution in several significant solar projects in India. The 200 MW Raghnesda Solar Power Plant located in Gujarat was launched amid the peak of the pandemic and continues to provide dependable, clean energy.
The 250 MW Kadapa project in Andhra Pradesh utilizes cutting-edge inverter technology to enhance energy production, whereas the 140 MW Bhadla project in Rajasthan is establishing new standards for solar operations in desert conditions through the use of robotic, waterless cleaning systems.
ENGIE's existing portfolio in India comprises 2.5 GW distributed among 23 renewable energy initiatives across seven states.
With more than 300 MW installed in Rajasthan, the company is further solidifying its role as a significant player in the state's clean energy landscape. Its strategic emphasis continues to be on digital innovation, sustainable operations, and community-oriented service.
