India's Eil Wins a $350 Million Contract to Build the Largest Dangote Refinery in Africa.

One of the biggest energy projects in the world, Nigeria's Dangote Refinery and Petrochemical Complex, has awarded a contract worth over USD 350 million to state-owned Engineers India Ltd (EIL) to manage the next stage of expansion.

In accordance with the mandate, EIL will work with the Dangote Group again as Project Management Consultant (PMC) and Engineering, Procurement and Construction Management (EPCM) consultant for the expansion. EIL previously performed a similar role during the construction of the original refinery.

The largest conglomerate in Nigeria, the Dangote Group, which has its headquarters in Lagos, intends to greatly expand the plant under Train 2, increasing its ability to process oil from 650,000 barrels per day to 1.4 million barrels per day. The complex's refined products will be of even higher quality thanks to the new facility's production of Euro VI-grade fuels.

The extension will significantly boost polypropylene output in addition to refining capacity. The capacity will increase to 2.4 million metric tonnes annually (MMTPA) from 830 kilo tonnes annually (kTPA). This will be accomplished by renovating the current polypropylene unit, adding a 1.2 MMTPA unit, and boosting propylene feedstock with a world-scale 750 kTPA UOP Oleflex facility.

The 650,000 barrels-per-day integrated refinery and petrochemical complex at the Lekki Free Zone, which was put into service in 2024, had previously hired EIL as a PMC and EPCM consultant. Producing Euro-V quality gasoline, diesel, jet fuel, and polypropylene, the single-train operation is the biggest of its kind in the world. For Africa's industrial and energy ecosystem, it is largely regarded as a historic endeavor.

In addition to expanding fuel production capacity within Africa, reducing dependency on imports, and improving regional energy security, the new development is anticipated to make the Dangote complex the largest petroleum refinery in the world.

According to EIL, "the latest expansion further reinforces Nigeria's mission to become a regional hub for refined petroleum products and petrochemicals."

The contract, according to EIL, which works for the Indian Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, shows continued faith in its technical and project management skills. In order to deliver the second phase of the project, which is anticipated to rank among the largest refinery complexes at a single location globally, the business noted that it will draw on its experience in oil and gas, refining, petrochemicals, fertilizers, metallurgy, infrastructure, and renewable energy.
