National food and nutrition campaign launched by Indian Agriculture Minister

Union Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare Minister Narendra Singh Tomar announced the establishment of the Agriculture Infrastructure Fund, which will facilitate and speed up sanctions through a user-friendly web site.

He urged the states to take advantage of the fund in his address on the second day of the Chief Ministers' conference on his Ministry's initiatives and schemes, according to a Ministry release, so that the benefits can reach small and marginal farmers who lack warehousing and cold storage facilities at the farm gate.

Tomar remarked that the farmers' database "is our wealth" and that the digital agriculture mission will provide targeted programme delivery, less seepages, better policy development, and smart farming to the country. According to him, the database with 5.5 crore farmers is complete, and work is underway to verify the identities of the remaining farmers using land records.

According to Tomar, the Union Cabinet recently approved the National Edible Oil Mission (NMEO-OP) for palm oil, with an emphasis on the Northeast and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. "As a result, the production of edible oils in the country will be expedited, lowering the need for edible oil imports. This mission will greatly benefit palm oil producers by increasing capital investment, creating jobs, reducing reliance on imports, and increasing farmer income "he stated

Piyush Goyal, the Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, stated in his speech that the central government is working closely with state governments to improve the future of farmers. He stated that food security is identical with farmer security, and that farmer reforms have led India to AtmaNirbhar Bharat.

On agriculture exports, Goyal stated that exports are critical to double farmers' income and that India should strive to become one of the top five agricultural exporting countries.

He noted that 106 items have been identified from 103 districts in "One District, One Product," and that these districts should be promoted as export hubs to ensure that local goes global. Red rice is already being transported to the United States, and jackfruit from Tripura is being shipped to the United Kingdom, he said. According to the press release, "Free Trade Agreements are being hammered out for better markets."

Additional Secretary Vivek Agarwal gave a presentation on the conference's topic, 'AtmaNirbhar Agriculture,' which aims to "convert farmers into entrepreneurs with higher income and better quality of life; make India the world's food basket; and make agriculture the go-to investment opportunity."
