In order to carry out the Kenya Transmission Public Private Partnership project, Mwanga Transmission Company Limited was established as a Special Purpose Vehicle. Based on a Project Agreement signed with Kenya Electricity Transmission Company Limited, the project is classified as a Public Private Partnership. The proposal, called the Kenya Independent Power Transmission Project, seeks to improve the nation's power transmission system by bringing in technical know-how and private funding.
Africa50 controls 60% of the new company's shares, with POWERGRID holding the other 40%. This arrangement demonstrates a well-balanced collaboration that blends strong technical skills in power transmission with local investment expertise.
To ensure openness for stakeholders and investors, the statement was issued in accordance with Regulation 30 of the SEBI (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015. By joining this alliance, POWERGRID is not only growing its business outside of India but also helping East Africa build dependable and effective electricity infrastructure.
